Mornings don't come easy . . .

Monday night I gave my alarm clock a glance before getting into bed. Did I have something in the morning? Didn't think so. Why bother to set the alarm if I don't have to get up the next morning, right? Now that my kids are all out of the house (and I don't have a job), I have the luxury of sleeping until my body wakes up. In my mothering years, I longed for these kind of mornings. You might have guessed. I'm not a morning person.

But I happen to wake up Tuesday morning way too early for me - 5:30. After an hour of just laying there, I sat up in bed and read a new book until I got good and sleepy and then settled back in to finish off my quota for a good night's sleep.

I awoke to my cell phone ringing on my bedside table at 10:15. You know that startled awake feeling. Where am I? What's going on? What day is it? Am I dreaming? Is that the phone or the alarm?

It was Jeffers Elementary school wondering where I was, if everything was OK. Suddenly, I felt like an elementary child who was playing hooky.

I immediately panicked when I realized that Tuesday mornings are my mornings to meet with my little Kids Hope girl at 8:45. I felt terrible. Blundering sleepily through my words of apology, Mrs. Anderson, the school secretary, was very gracious and understanding, even though I'm sure I didn't make any sense over the phone.

Wow, I felt terrible. How could I totally miss that? And so I made arrangements to meet with Leah this morning and redeemed my total goof up. She was very gracious.

Morning's don't come easy for me. What about you - early bird or night owl?

Early bird, yea and night owl, that too. I am usually up by 6:30 or 7:00 (sometimes I might lay in bed and read for a while but I usually don't go back to sleep) and I don't really go to bed until 11:30 (after the weather on the 11:00 news) and then I read for a half hour or so unless I am really, really tired. My down time is usually between 3 and 4 in the after noon.

I am definitely an Night Owl. In fact, that is when I get most of my cleaning and re-organizing done -much to Rich's dismay. I've NEVER been good at getting up early, so thankfully I have my kids trained to sleep in until 8 a.m.

I am an early bird, usually out the door by 6:30 a.m. for school. I like to get there when there isn't a lot of teachers there yet because once everyone gets there I just have to socialize.

I usually crash on the couch early, especially on Friday nights after a long week. I wish I was a night owl like I was in college!

I guess I'm an early bird, since I like to be in bed by 10:30. But I don't like early mornings, I just like a lot of sleep. :) I feel best about my day when I can be up and about by 7:30 - otherwise I feel like the world has started life without me.

Night owl for sure. I can't wait to have those days that you are describing. Since the girls came along, I don' think I can remember what it feels like to sleep in...even on vacation they are up at 7am!

All different kinds of body clocks . . . I don't like to be rushed, so maybe that's why I'm not a morning person. The idea of getting up and having to be somewhere first thing in the morning isn't natural for me. How did I ever make it through school?
