It was midnight. We had just settled into bed for the night. Quick goodnight kiss, “love you,” and with that Dennis curled up on his side for a long winter’s nap. Me? I laid flat on my back in thinking mode.
“Honey, what brings you joy?”
“What?” He loves when I ask him questions right before he goes to sleep.
“What brings you joy?”
“Sunrises, sunsets, Evee, changed lives.”
“Changed lives? You mean watching peoples lives changed by God?”
Muffled as it was, I caught the “yea” as he drifted off to sleep. I was happy to get that much out of him.
I lay there for a few minutes thinking about what brought me joy.
Of course, Dennis
My kids
Evee, too
Good friends
Sunshine
Walks on the beach (where I love to pray)
Me too, for changed lives
And I'll throw this one in, comments on my blog (for real)
Joy.
What brings you joy?

Keep on bloggin' good friend. Love your stuff. Way brings me joy? Anything with sugar, hugs and special times with my kids, time alone with Scott, my job - serving Him in my sweet spot, friends.
Ohhh, Sheila, you brought something to mind with your "anything with sugar" . . . how could I forget my Cinnamon Dolce Latte!
For me, it's my family just being together doing everyday things, the joy of children learning new things, watching children create art, watching children worship God (and participating with them, too!), being at the beach, connecting with God through creating art, finding God in the everyday, new babies (especially their toes and noses), good chai, the change of seasons, and the opportunities that we get everyday to bring joy to others.....hope this comment brought some joy to you, today, Gwen. Merry Christmas!
Hello Gwen! I love reading your entries! What brings me joy? There are so many things...my husband Nate, my family and friends,my friends' kids, teaching, giving to others, the list goes on and on!
I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Hmmm, what brings me joy? I love that you posed this question, Gwen, because it's forced me to think about the word JOY and what makes it come flooding into my life... Here's my list:
God's sweet presence in the midst of chaos
Sunshine on a cold winter day
Nothing else on the Sunday afternoon agenda but a nap
Plenty of time to accomplish a list of tasks
Knowing my husband and kids love me unconditionally
Fresh flowers in February
My grandchild's smile
Sitting across the table from Cecil at a restaurant and exchanging that "special look"
Long, uninterrupted talks with girlfriends
Funny stories that produce exhilarating laughter, the kind of laughter that makes my sides hurt and takes my breath away
My country--despite its many flaws. It's still the best country in the WORLD!
What brings me joy? Our children laughing, our warm home on a cold winter day, holding my hubby's hand, singing worship songs to our Lord, watching people describe how God has changed their life in some way. And a grande low fat Chai :)

Thanks for all your wonderful descriptions of joy! They all brought smiles to my face and joy to me:). Tomorrow I teach the kids in children's church about the true meaning of Christmas . . . Jesus . . . may He bring you the greatest joy always.
