Some changes are life altering, like a massive wave washing over us, leaving us gasping for air and wondering what happened. Or, change can be like a stone skipping across the surface of the water, making a few ripples, then returning to normal.
We probably experience ripple effects every day of our lives. Like when I’m in the middle of a recipe only to realize that I’m missing an ingredient; putting everything on hold while I run to the store is a minor inconvenience. Or like the morning we received the phone call informing us that our evening departure for the Lake Express ferry was canceled, but not to worry, they would provide us with ground travel. The five-hour shuttle bus got us home three hours later than planned. A bumpy ride, yacky people and a late night might have been annoying and a bother, but it didn’t mess up life forever.
I'm curious . . . what things in life cause the ripple effect for you?

Asking questions - great idea Gwen!Sick children cause ripples in our family.
Yea, I figured "kids" would be one of those ripple effects. Not to say that they are "minor inconveniences," but just the nature of children brings change and the older they get, the bigger the changes!
Hi Gwen!
I've noticed that ripples can feel like waves when I am stressed or have not had enough sleep!
Thanks for helping me think about change in this way!
Staci,
I totally agree. Maybe it's a "Grubb" thing, but I need my sleep or I can easily become a basket case. One of the nice things about the empty nest is that I can sleep as long as I want:).
The codependency movement - the effects it has on family's and may have on generations to come.
Change is a good thing, but the older I get, the less I like it. Although it's strange I would say that since, at 59, I'm undergoing a complete career change! What in the world is God thinking? hahaha.
Still, I love life and all its idiosyncracies! (I'm sure I misspelled that word!) Lots of things interrupt its flow, but oh, how we learn from change in the ways it affects us.
Thanks for making me think about this, Gwen. I need to stop reading your blog, or I'll never get to bed tonight. It's already 12:15. Stop making me think, would you?!
Love and Blessings,
Shar
Shar,
Sorry to keep you up late . . . I think you hit the nail on the head. We definitely learn from the changes in life. At least we should choose to do so. I think change should make us more humble . . . especially unexpected change. It proves that we're not in control of everything.
